What E06 means on this model

The control cannot confirm the door state, so it will not start a cycle with a door it cannot verify. A door that has dropped slightly out of square produces this repeatedly, and the sensor itself is checked before the board is blamed.

On a top loader, a broken lid switch under the console rather than a failed lock

What you can safely check

These are homeowner-level checks. None of them need you to open a live electrical compartment or work on gas.

Push the door closed firmly and look for the latch to pull the door in against the seal.
Check the door seal and the pocket at the latch for a sock, a hairpin, or a coin.
On a top loader, feel along the edge of the lid for a break or a gap in the plastic hinge piece.
On a front loader, look at the glass bowl and the strike for obvious misalignment.
